Which eReader?

I’ve tweeted recently about my desire to purchase, or have M give me, an eBook reader for Christmas this year. I’m having trouble narrowing down which one I prefer, as the one I am pretty sure that I want, cannot, and will not be shipped to Australia by Amazon.

I was initially wanting the Kindle Touch Wi-Fi, however according to the Amazon website, that Touch cannot be sent down here to Australia, which mildly sucks. So I’m really up in the air as to the eReader I should get.

I like the idea of a keyboarded version, but adding the keyboard to the screen makes the device larger. The latest Kindle (v4) has an on-screen keyboard which is controlled by a 5-way button, and the Touch has an on-screen keyboard which can be controlled by your, you guessed it, touch.

Then there are the other devices out there, the Nook from Barnes & Noble, the Kobo, and the Sony eReader just to name a few. I am sure that there are others, but these are the main ones that I have looked at so far.

I have pretty much narrowed my choice down to two devices, the Kindle Keyboard, and the Sony eReader, primarily because of their ability to play audio, as well as handle eBooks. I am a fan of audio books to some extent, so to have the audio version of a book playing in my ear as I read the book will definitely be helpful.

So of my two choices (Kindle Keyboard & Sony eReader) which would you choose, and why? If you have an alternative device, what is it, and why did you choose it?

i own a first generation kindle and ipad with wifi. if all you want to do is download and read ebooks from amazon, the kind should work wel. howver if you want to read pdf documents kindle does not compare to ipad. if you want to upload ebooks in the epic format, ipad does a great job. you use ibooks from the ipad app store to read books in pdf or epub format. ibooks is free. they now have an affordable write app you can use to publish your own books in case you wanted to make an ebook from your blog. a first generation at 16gb and wifi only should be comparable in price to the kindle or nook
