I know that I am only a newbie when it comes to anal play with butt plugs, but I thought I would share some tips that I find personally beneficial
1 – Use water based lubricant
I have a preference for water based lubricants because it is compatible with so many toys out there, from metal, to wood, and right through to silicone. I always have a bottle of water based lubricant one my bedside table.
2 – Start with a beginners plug
For a new person, rushing into a cock sized plug would be disastrous. You will certainly do damage to yourself, and if you don’t succeed as insertion, you may be turned off the wonderful toys
3 – Be in the mood
Trying to insert a butt plug without some form of arousal is not a good idea. You need to be relaxed, and a good frame of mind always helps, even a little masturbation up front.
4 – A little masturbation before never hurts
The easiest way to get yourself in the mood before anal play is a little bit of masturbation. It gets me in the mood every time, and it helps make relaxation of my PC muscles much easier.t
5 – Take your time
There is no need to rush to slide a butt plug inside you. If you even attempt to get one inside you quickly, you risk doing damage to the toy, but most of all you risk damaging your body. We don’t want that, and so you really should take your time while inserting your butt plug.
6 – Lots of lubricant is never enough
As with tip number 1, lubricant is a must. The anus is not self lubricating like the vagina, and you will need the assistance of lubricant to insert you butt plug. Again, without lubricant you risk damaging your body.
I’m sure that each of you has their own additional tips, and I would be most interested in seeing what you come up with.
These are my top tips, what are yours?

If your plug is made of something other than silicone I’d recommend using silicone lube as it lasts a lot longer for anal use in my experience, but my big #1 tip or rather rule…
If it doesn’t have a flared base or other handle to prevent the toy from slipping inside and end up with you needing to go to the ER to get it retrieved.
Try Astroglide water based lubricant or Astroglide Silicone based lubricant for best results.
